With reference to Your Excellency's despatch

of the 16th. of last June on the subject of the Imperial Decree prohibiting the import of raw opium from China to

this Colony, I have the honour to transmit the enclosed

copy of correspondence which has passed between this Governe

ment and His Majesty's Acting Consul General at Canton as

to the smuggling of raw opium into this Colony, from China.
